For years, Le Richmond Griffintown has been one of Montreal's most anticipated Grand Prix weekend destinations. Not a pop-up. Not a one-off. A restaurant that has made F1 weekend part of its identity and built something that gets better every single year. This year's Sand Storm edition, powered by McLaren Montreal, transforms the iconic venue into a luxurious desert oasis with DJs Sandy Duperval (BLK PRL) and Majess spinning Saturday's Red Carpet Night. I have been attending for three consecutive years. This will be my fourth.
There are venues that host Grand Prix parties because it is good business. And then there are venues that have made Grand Prix weekend part of their DNA. Le Richmond Griffintown is the latter.
Located at 377 Rue Richmond in the heart of Griffintown, Le Richmond is first and foremost one of Montreal's most respected Italian restaurants. Upscale northern Italian cuisine. Heritage industrial architecture. Exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and a refined atmosphere that has made it a destination dining room year-round. But one weekend every year, the restaurant undergoes a complete transformation. And it has been doing so for years.
I have been attending Le Richmond's Grand Prix weekend for three consecutive years. Each time, the production gets more ambitious. The crowd gets more electric. The energy gets harder to put into words for anyone who has not experienced it firsthand. It is not just a party. It is a full weekend takeover that builds night after night, with each evening carrying its own distinct personality, until Saturday's Tapis Rouge Red Carpet Gala brings the entire weekend to its peak.
What separates Le Richmond from the dozens of other venues that pop up with Grand Prix events across Montreal is consistency. This is not a rented space with a temporary bar. This is a venue that has spent more than ten editions refining what a multi-night Grand Prix experience looks like. They understand pacing. They understand production. They understand that Thursday night should feel different from Friday night, which should feel different from Saturday night. And every year, a completely new theme ties the entire weekend together with fresh decor, fresh creative direction, and a fresh sensory experience built from scratch.
The video above is from Le Richmond's 2019 Grand Prix weekend, and it captures the energy perfectly. The exposed brick. The red lighting. The crowd dressed to the nines. The room alive with sound and movement. This is what years of refinement look like. And every year since has only raised the bar higher.
Among last year's guests was Karl Wolf, the Lebanese-Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer whose quadruple-platinum cover of Toto's "Africa" became one of the biggest Canadian singles of the 2000s. The track spent eight weeks at number two on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, reached number one on iTunes, number one on AC Radio, and earned him an MTV Europe Music Award. A three-time Juno nominee, Karl has built one of the most quietly impressive catalogues in Canadian music, with gold records for "Carrera," "Yalla Habibi," "Mash It Up" featuring Juicy J, and "Ghetto Love" featuring Kardinal Offishall. He co-wrote OMI's international hit "Hula Hoop" and has recently been dubbed the "Father of A-Pop" for pioneering Arabic-influenced pop music in the mainstream over two decades ago, long before it became a global trend. His presence at Le Richmond was a natural fit for an evening that blends cultural prestige with high energy. He was photographed alongside X-WAM, Canada's beatboxing champion, on the red carpet.
And now, for 2026, Le Richmond Griffintown is raising the bar once again.
This year's concept is called Sand Storm, an immersive theme inspired by the mystery and intensity of the desert. The entire venue will be transformed into a luxurious desert oasis with warm golden tones, spectacular lighting, captivating performances, and high-energy music. The partnership with McLaren Montreal adds a direct connection to the spirit of F1 weekend, bridging automotive prestige with nightlife culture in a way that feels organic to what Le Richmond has always done.
In their own words: it is "a world inspired by desert storms." Three nights. Three atmospheres. One destination.
The weekend opens with the Kick Off Party. This is where the energy begins to build. An electrifying atmosphere, intoxicating rhythms, and a rising energy that sets the stage for what follows. Guests are welcomed into the Richmond Oasis for an elegant evening with immersive decor, vibrant music, and captivating performances. Tables and private sections are available for a seated dining experience with VIP service, or guests can choose the standing experience with open bar access from 7 PM.
Friday shifts into something darker and more intense. The Gentlemen's Club night offers an exclusive, members-only style experience enhanced by captivating performances and high-energy entertainment. This evening has traditionally become one of the busiest and most vibrant nights of the entire F1 weekend at Le Richmond. Terrace and indoor VIP sections are available by reservation, along with bar and high-top table options.
And then Saturday. Tapis Rouge. The Red Carpet Night. This is the crown jewel of Le Richmond's Grand Prix weekend, and it is the night I look forward to most every year. A grand evening where all eyes are on you. Red carpet arrivals. Official photographers and media coverage on site. Spectacular performances. Breathtaking production. This is the evening where Sand Storm reaches its absolute peak, and it is the night that typically sells out several weeks in advance.
On the decks for Tapis Rouge: DJ Sandy Duperval (BLK PRL) and Majess. If you know Montreal nightlife, you know these names. Sandy Duperval has built a reputation as one of the city's most dynamic DJs, and Majess brings the kind of energy that keeps a room moving until last call. Together, they are the right pairing for the biggest night of Le Richmond's year.
Elegant attire is required. This is not a suggestion. The official photographer and media coverage will be on site, so the expectation is that guests arrive ready to be seen.
Tapis Rouge ticket options:
General Admission includes access to the Red Carpet experience, a welcome glass of champagne, open bar all evening, premium canapés, and access to the main party.
Late Entry grants access from 10 PM in standing room with open bar all night and sweet bites. Limited availability.
VIP Sections offer a limited number of premium indoor sections with VIP table service and a full seated dining experience. Only three VIP sections are available, depending on group size. Contact Le Richmond directly at info@lerichmond.com or call 514.508.8749 for VIP inquiries.
What I appreciate most about Le Richmond's approach to Grand Prix weekend is that it never loses sight of what makes the venue special in the first place. This is a restaurant with a serious kitchen, a beautiful room, and a team that cares about hospitality. The Grand Prix programming does not erase that. It builds on it. You can have a world-class dining experience and then watch the room transform around you as the night unfolds. That dual identity, fine dining destination and premier Grand Prix venue, is something very few places in Montreal pull off this well.
The venue itself deserves recognition. The heritage architecture of the Griffintown space, with its exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and industrial elegance, creates a natural backdrop that does not need to try too hard. It is a room that photographs beautifully, which is why the Red Carpet Night consistently produces some of the most shared images of the entire Grand Prix weekend across social media.
Le Richmond Griffintown has been part of Montreal's Grand Prix fabric for years. That kind of longevity does not happen by accident. It happens because the team behind the venue treats every edition as an opportunity to push further while staying true to what makes the space work. Sand Storm is the latest chapter. Based on what I have seen over the past three years, it will not disappoint.
I will be there. For the fourth year in a row.
